The government inaugurated a new computer laboratory at Petrus !Ganeb Secondary School in Uis, Erongo Region, to bridge the digital divide and improve education access.
Education Minister Sanet Steenkamp said, “This facility marks a crucial step in ensuring no Namibian child is left behind in an increasingly digital world.”
The lab was funded by the Swakop Uranium Foundation, which donated 20 computers, a printer, and network equipment valued at N$347,000.
Dr. Steenkamp acknowledged infrastructure challenges, noting learners currently travel to Omaruru for practical science lessons due to a lack of a laboratory.
Swakop Uranium CEO Luo Wei urged students to use the computers as “gateways to knowledge, innovation, and opportunity,” reaffirming the Foundation’s 10-year commitment to supporting computer studies nationally.
School principal Ronald /Awarab encouraged teachers to maximize the new facility, while Erongo Chief Regional Officer Mupenzeni Ntelamo emphasized Uis’s strategic importance as a transit hub once road improvements are completed.
