Northern-based businessman David Sheehama has pledged to rehabilitate two access roads in the Oshana Region.

The gravel roads will improve access to schools, especially during the rainy season.

The rehabilitation will focus on the damaged sections of the 8-kilometre access road to Omusheshe Combined School, which leads to Oupumako Combined School in Okatana Constituency. This road branches off from the Ongwediva-Onamutai tarred road.

The second road, which is 4 kilometres long, branches out from the Omuntele-Uukwiyu Uushona gravel road to Okatyali and Onekandu Primary School in the Okatyali constituency.

Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge praised the businessman for fulfilling his corporate social responsibility within the region, noting that the roads suffer significant damage, particularly during the rainy season. This damage complicates navigation for motorists attempting to reach various destinations.

"We can see that these roads are really having a problem; if it rains, it becomes worse. The road is marked with potholes and becomes bumpy and slippery during the rainy season, which results in slow traffic to reach various destinations."

The businessman said he would rehabilitate the roads using high-end machinery to ensure they last a long time.

Sheehama is well-known in the northern regions for assisting communities and the government.

"We are here to ensure that we assist with a few access roads and fix the roads so that they cannot be severely inaccessible. The region is vast, and we wish we could be able to assist, but we will first start with these two. All we need is gravel sand from the traditional leadership so that we can utilise that; all equipment and personnel will be from Kambwa Trading."

The rehabilitation is anticipated to commence towards the end of May.
