The Kavango East Region Education Directorate has honoured the best-performing teachers and learners in the 2025 National Examination Assessment.

Speaking during the ceremony, Kavango East Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka commended performing teachers and learners despite challenges such as infrastructure, resources and geographical accessibility.

"It represents teachers who remained after school to provide additional support to struggling learners. It represents parents who encouraged their children despite economic hardship. It represents school learners or leaders who inspire excellence through visionary leadership."

Hambyuka further called on teachers and learners to focus on critical subjects in order to contribute to Namibia's socio-economic development.

"This requires us to strengthen literacy and numeracy foundations. Improve performance in science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects. Expand digital learning opportunities, promote innovation and entrepreneurship and cultivate a culture of lifelong learning."

Out of 31 secondary schools in Kavango East, two obtained 92 percent and 85 percent, while three ranked between 68 percent and 76 percent.

Eight schools ranked from 53 to about 59 percent, while seven were between 42 and 47 percent.

Christine Shilima, Education Director in the Kavango East Region, said, "It is not easy to get these results. Eleven schools deserve our attention because they performed below 40 percent, which is between 38.7 and 20.4 percent and we already have plans in place. We are going to conduct performance dialogue very soon. We are coming to schools for us to carry out a discussion with the principals and various schools with teachers and the entire school management for us to find out where the problem is."
