The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism in the Zambezi Region has cautioned residents in the Sibbinda Constituency to remain alert as wildlife continues to migrate through the area in search of water.

Wildlife and National Parks Control Warden Mulife Muyoba said the movement of wildlife is a normal occurrence at this time of the year.

His warning on animal movements comes after a herd of elephants reportedly entered and damaged crops at a farm in the area on Thursday.

A farm manager, Peter Kwalela, explained his ordeal.

“When we woke up around 06H00 to start working, we found that they had returned to eat some more. It stood right there, and a man tried to chase it out.”

The elephants also destroyed a corn harvest.

Kwalela urged the conservancy for assistance, as the elephants do not move when chased away, which could potentially pose a danger to humans.

Wildlife and National Parks Control Warden Mulife Muyoba urged residents to contact them if the spot any wildlife.

He stated that although the Ministry is currently utilising most of its resources for the ongoing game count, officials will make an effort to attend to issues relating to the dangers of human-wildlife conflict.
