NBC Board Chairperson Lazarus Jacobs, accompanied by other members and employees of the national broadcaster, has paid tribute to the late Lamech Mwanyangapo.

Jacobs described Mwanyangapo as a committed colleague who remained dedicated to the corporation even after his retirement.

Jacobs, who worked with Mwanyangapo at NBC in the 1990s, described him as someone who was closely associated with the corporation.

The delegation visited Mwanyangapo's window, children and family at his residence.

“Lameck was NBC, and NBC was Lameck. He was a very committed leader and colleague. Even when he officially retired, he was not retired. He continued to work and assist the marketing department. We are really sorry for your loss, but your loss is also our loss."

A board member, Michael Jimmy, recalled working with Mwanyangapo particularly around generating revenue and strengthening the financial sustainability of the corporation.

“He was very passionate about bringing in money for the NBC. He was concerned about the sustainability of the NBC and that the government alone should not provide all the money, but each and every one of us must contribute to the coffers of the NBC. Even when he was hospitalised, he remained concerned about the nation and his work. Nothing could separate Lameck from his work; he was NBC inside and out."

Speaking on behalf of the family, Peter Mwatile thanked the broadcaster for its emotional support during their time of grief.

“You know, your presence and your words, first and foremost, as family members, mean a lot to us. We would like to say thank you so much for coming. We now know who the family members of Lamech Mwanyangapo are, and NBC is also one of Lamech’s family members. On behalf of the family members who are here and those who are up north, we thank you so much. Lamech is gone, and we will no longer see him physically, but your speeches show and remind us that you still remember who Lamech was.”
