The police in the Kavango East said they are engaging and educating the community on safety and crime prevention measures whilst conducting Operation Basadi.

The national operation is also going well in the Kavango East region.

"The activities that we had on Friday were that we had a community at the Kaisosi clinic, we had a meeting with the community, and the police were educating them on sexual-related offences. To mention some, like rape and immoral acts, and also cases that contribute to GBV, especially in the neighbourhood, so that was some of the activities of which we had a night patrol on Friday," said the Kavango East Crime Prevention Commander, Deputy Commissioner, Lucia Kahuure.

The operation also conducted a night patrol on Friday night just to see adherence to the law by liquor outlets.

"The night patrol was actually just because it was a payday, so we concentrated more on the bars, closing time, whether they were adhering to the licence regulations and also the ATMs just to ensure that the people that went in the night to withdraw money were safe."

On Saturday, the police continued to do their operations; they also had a stop and search and confiscated some items, including drugs.

"We also had a major burst at Masivi Roadblock. We also searched a woman, and drugs were found with her, which is also a case registered. She is appearing in court as we are talking today."

Some of the activity was just to educate the community on their safety, because in Rundu we have more cases where cell phones are grabbed for them to look after their properties, and we also have some fines for drunk driving and gave warnings to the community. OUT

Deputy Commissioner Kahuure lauded the operation.

The operation which started on Friday will end Tuesday.
