Residents in Keetmanshoop raised concerns about alleged police brutality and, at times, slow police response during a meeting with Police Inspector General, Lieutenant-General Joseph Shikongo.

At the meeting, residents were given the opportunity to raise their concerns.

Community members say noise pollution, the mushrooming of shebeens, alcohol and drug abuse by young people, and the mugging of cell phones are also worrisome in the southern town.

In response, Lieutenant-General Shikongo assured the community that their concerns would receive urgent attention. "We are not here to condone any impunity, you know, actions with impunity where police officers just abuse their power. When the Namibian police come to the rescue of our people, let's assist them. But I should point out some human rights violations. If it's there, it must be reported to us, to the authorities, so that we do investigate, but it is not just a question of hearsay, you hear people talking, and then from there, you stand up to demonstrate against the police.
