Zambia's President has called on the governments of Zambia and Namibia to work together to eliminate challenges hampering the transport and logistics network between the two countries.
Hakainde Hichilema made this call during the Namibia-Zamibia Business Seminar in Swakopmund.
The Zambian President noted the payment system concerning the African Free Trade Area is among the issues being considered by his government.
He says differing currency regimes across different African countries result in trucks becoming stuck at borders, slowing down the delivery of goods and negatively impacting trade among African nations.
He called for the harmonisation of currencies.
"One of the things that you, the business community, can say is that we can isolate the door challenges around trading financial issues and what are those things that tell us, excitedly, don't give us the generality, the specific remedial matters, as you see, as you transact with each other."
He called for collaboration between countries in the SADC region and further afield on the continent.
Hichilema also praised the well-maintained Walvis Bay Corridor trade route, which connects Zambia with the neighbouring countries of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
