The police in Kavango West are investigating a stock theft case suspected to involve Meatco officials.
The police intercepted a truck belonging to Meatco that was transporting eight calves suspected of having been stolen from the Matumbo Ribebe Quarantine Camp in the Ncuncuni Constituency.
The cattle were being transported to the farming unit, which allegedly belongs to one of the managers at the meat corporation.
Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the junior staff of Meatco were instructed to transport the livestock to the manager's farm in the Karukuvisa area.
Kavango West Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator Abner Agas says no proof of purchase or transportation permit was issued for the movement of the animals.
Deputy Commissioner Agas says no arrest has been made for now, but a docket for stock theft has been opened.
The cattle are being impounded at the Ncaute Police Station while the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, community members in the area are calling for a 24-hour roadblock on the Ncaute Road, which they say has become a corridor for criminals.
The current roadblock has no electricity; therefore, it only operates during the day.
The Ncaute road connects to the Otjozondupa region via Tsumkwe, providing a safe route for those avoiding the Mururani Checkpoint.
Stock theft and theft of solar borehole pumps are said to be among the escalating crimes in the areas.
