The Swapo Party President, Hage Geingob says tasks will soon be assigned to the new central committee members.

The four-day elective congress of the ruling party elected 35 men and 35 women to serve in the central committee for the next five years.
The central committee election has seen relatively new cadres enter the Party's highest decision-making body, and some prominent heavyweights not making it.

The top four, Dr Hage Geingob, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Sophia Shaningwa, and Uahekua Herunga, automatically qualify as members of the CC.

Works and Transport Minister, John Mutorwa received the highest number of votes among male candidates with more than 608 votes and Tuuliki Abrahams came out top on the list of women with 568 votes.

Some familiar faces who made a return to the central committee are Tommy Nambahu, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, Usko Nghaamwa, Alpheus !Naruseb, Pendukeni Ivula-Ithana and Lucia Iipumbu.

The CC elections also saw youthful cadres make a grand entrance into the decision-making structures, including Willem Amutenya, Christine Haindaka, Neville Andre, and Ndahafa Hapulile.

President Geingob declared the process free and the 7th Congress of the ruling party - a resounding success.
The President wants the focus, going forward, to be on service delivery and preparation for the 2024 national elections.
