NamPol's Inspector General has launched the festive season crime prevention campaign in the Kavango East Region.

Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo said the patrol, which is part of the crime prevention campaign, was also due to the rising cases of criminal activities in the Kavango East Region.

The most common criminal activities in Kavango East Region are street robberies, housebreaking, and stock theft.

"Today is also very encouraging. You made a pledge that you were going to do your work to the best of your abilities and that you were prepared to make changes, and improve in areas where you were not yet ready. The purpose of this parade today is to brief you and, indeed, to give you a marching order for operations. From here, the commander is going to put you in your different shifts, and then we deploy," said Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo while addressing the officers that are being deployed.

Because of the limited number of cars available, the police chief says they will conduct foot patrols.

Shikongo says police visibility will help reduce crime.

"To ensure that the people of Rundu and the people of the Kavango East Region are at peace, we cannot allow the current situation that is occurring in your town and in your region to continue. It is unacceptable that people here live in fear, including yourself after you knock off; you cannot walk freely because of the criminal activities that are occurring in the town of Rundu."

Lieutenant General Shikongo says the operation will only end after street robberies have decreased in Rundu.
