Namibia has still not recorded flood water in the Cuvelai catchment from southern Angola.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform's Senior Hydrologist for the Cuvelai-Etosha basin, Leonard Hango, says a flash flood from the Cuvelai catchment is flowing towards the Namibia-Angola borders from the direction of Ondjiva and Namakunde.

In an interview with nbc News along the Namibia-Angola border at Onghala Village, Hango said the flood waters have not yet reached the Namibian side but they are monitoring the situation.

He cautioned communities living along the Namibia-Angola border in the Ohangwena Region to take precautionary measures against imminent flooding.

"We are here to monitor the flood that we heard is in Angola and flowing towards the border. The flood water has not yet reached the border; there is no water in the streams, but the information at hand indicates that the water is a lot farther away from the border, which is almost 3 kilometers from where we are standing now. It's not coming fast because it's a flash flood from upstream Cuvelai at Evale, where heavy rain fell last weekend, but we expect it to arrive in the next two to three days, so the public should be prepared."

Hango says they are on the ground monitoring the situation in order to provide prompt updates to the public.

Our team also spoke to Leonard Hangula, whom they met patrolling the border, checking for any eventualities that might arise.

"We are aware of the looming floods coming in from Angola; we are worried about the survival of our cattle more because they graze in these streams and will have no place to graze anymore. I am sure humans will survive it, as this will not be the first flood we will experience here."

Members of the public are reminded to stock up on food supplies and to ensure that the young and elderly are not put at risk by crossing deep oshanas.
