The governments of Namibia and Botswana say the objective of the Memorandum of Agreement is to establish a legal framework within which the two countries shall conduct their relationship and set out the modalities of cooperation in relation to the facilitation of cross-border travel using National Identity Cards between them.

The MoU was signed today along the Trans-Kalahari/Mamuno common border in the east.

The two countries have already formed a joint technical committee tasked with developing strategies and mechanisms for the authentication and verification of national identity cards.

The other is establishing the technical requirements for the installation of the necessary infrastructure at the ports of entry and exit.
