The World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned on Thursday that the Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC continues to expand, with 1,406 confirmed cases and 438 deaths, as violence and mistrust threaten efforts to contain the virus.

Zambia has recorded four deaths following a measles outbreak.

The Western Province of Zambia, bordering Namibia, has been declared an epicentre of the outbreak.

There is a serious need to shorten time lags between the years of producing data.

This was highlighted in the second series of mortality and causes of death reports launched by the Namibia Statistics Agency today.

A lack of data is said to fuel policy blindness and affect national programmes.

Namibia recorded 150 maternal deaths in 2020 due to the limitation of safe abortions and access to proper reproductive health services.
