ECN officials urged to uphold institution's values

Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua urged the voter registration officials of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) to uphold the values of the institution. 

Uerikua made the remarks when the ECN officials visited his office, pledging support to the officials to ensure a smooth and successful registration process.

The general registration of voters is scheduled to start from the 3rd of June until the 1st of August.

Severe storm at Okakarara leaves young girl traumatised

A severe storm that hit Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa Region on Sunday did not only cause significant damage to infrastructure but also left a 15-year-old girl traumatised after a near-death experience.

The nbc News team met up with Ndahafa Tjihuku, who sustained a broken leg and deep cuts on her back after being hit by bricks from a wall that collapsed.

Hours after a severe storm blew off the roof of her parents' house, partially damaging the walls and ceiling, Tjihuku is now using the aid of crutches to get by.

Okakarara community marks 120th anniversary of genocide

To mark the 120th commemoration of the Herero/Nama genocide on January 12, Jefta Nguherimo, an Ovaherero reparation activist, held a public lecture in Otjiherero language for locals at Okakarara, highlighting the significance of the day.
 
Nguherimo explained the remembrance as important to the Ovaharero people, under the leadership of the late Paramount Chief Samuel Maherero, who resisted German imperialism at the turn of the 20th century.

Nguherimo is a reparation activist.

Lack of grazing in Okakarara District a concern

Livestock farmers in the Okakarara District are worried as their animals have started to die as a result of a lack of grazing.

Most farmers say they cannot afford animal fodder.

An nbc News team driving through Okakarara witnessed malnourished cattle roaming around in search of grazing.

Farmers have started to slaughter the weak ones before they die.

Construction of Social Security Otjiwarongo Regional Office starts

All Social Security Commission (SSC) services will soon become easily accessible to residents of Otjiwarongo and the surrounding areas as the commission initiates the construction of the Otjiwarongo Regional Office.

The construction of the state-of-the-art building, with a budget of N$20 million, has already commenced and is expected to be completed by August of next year.
