Human trafficking is a real threat in Namibia, making education and vigilance critical. 

The Ministry of International Relations and Trade says the government is actively working to assist Namibian nationals who are trapped in fraud and exploitation networks in Myanmar and Thailand.

International Relations and Trade Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi says Namibia has made major advances towards operationalising its anti-trafficking efforts and addressing challenges in combating trafficking in persons.

The Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, has described human trafficking as a serious form of transnational organised crime that requires urgent and coordinated action.

Control Prosecutor in the office of the Prosecutor General, Soraya Petrus, has raised concern that the low number of trafficking in persons cases reported in the two Kavango regions could be due to a lack of understanding.

Namibia has recorded six cases of trafficking in persons between June 2024 and June this year.

This was shared during the commemoration of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons held at Rundu.

The SADC Chiefs of Police Sub-Committee will be meeting in Dar es Salaam from tomorrow until Friday for the Annual General Meeting.

The meeting will focus on tackling transnational organised crime throughout the region. 

Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo has called for the regulation of sex work, arguing that the current approach of criminalization is ineffective and only drives the industry underground, increasing risks for both sex workers and the public.
