The Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, made a ministerial statement in the National Assembly on Thursday in relation to Job Amupanda's recent visit to Ndama East Primary School in the Kavango East Region.

Concerns were raised in Parliament about the recent cases of children consuming alleged spoilt food in the Kavango regions, with questions raised about whether the Ministry of Education is doing anything to address the situation at school hostels.

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture has outlined strategic initiatives to curb the high unemployment rate in the education sector.

This is in response to the acknowledgement of a petition submitted to the Ministry by unemployed graduate teachers last month.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture, Dino Ballotti, has said the ministry is stepping up efforts to protect Namibia's indigenous languages. 

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture in the Zambezi Region has encouraged school learners to venture into technical subjects after observing good performances in this area last year.

The Executive Director in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has called on directors to be transparent decision makers.

Sanet Steenkamp said transparency is crucial when it comes to procurement, appointments and many other aspects of managing the education sector.

Almost three weeks into the new academic year, the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture is still addressing overcrowded classrooms and a 29.5% increase in candidates, which amounts to 12,031 learners who qualified for the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level for this year.

The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture Executive Director, Sanet Steenkamp, has reminded learners of their responsibility to break the cycle of unemployment and poverty through education, saying it rests with them. 

The Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture says that the newly inaugurated China-aided schools in the Zambezi Region will address critical issues for both staff and learners that hinder the learning and teaching process, particularly in rural areas.

The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture says it is in the implementation stage of the Transforming Education Implementation Charter 2023-2030.
