The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts, and Culture says it has not received any official reports from schools about an alleged online game said to encourage learners to engage in sexual activities.
Responding to a question from PDM Member of Parliament Inna Hengari, Minister Sanet Steenkamp said the ministry became aware of the alleged game after it circulated on a |Khomas parents' social media group. She said similar allegations had also surfaced last year.
Dr. Steenkamp said the ministry immediately followed up with schools in the |Khomas Region through its Programmes and Quality Assurance Directorate and clinical psychologists, but no school reported any incidents linked to the alleged game.
She said the ministry continues to implement its Safe Schools Framework and Life Skills and Health Education programmes to educate learners about the dangers and consequences of risky sexual behaviour.
The minister added that without formal reports from schools, the ministry can only continue with awareness and prevention efforts while monitoring the situation.
