Education evolve in the Kavango Region since before independence

Education is often referred to as the key to a successful future, and it is compulsory for a Namibian child.

Before independence, it was an achievement in the Kavango Region for one to produce good results. Schools in the Kavango Region were constructed based on traditional jurisdictions.

Each of the schools had a hostel to accommodate the learners, while the curriculum had four terms, and some learners would only return home after the fourth term.

On the western side of Kavango, there was Katjimi Murangi School, which was established in 1976.

Former student donates N$150,000 worth of equipment to Okondjatu Combined School

The Okondjatu Combined School received equipment worth N$150,000 from Kaijata Kangueehi, who is a former learner of the school from the late 1970s.

It is the first time in the history of the school to receive such valuable items from an individual.
 
Among the donated items are two photocopy machines, a DSTV set paid for the whole year, 200 mattresses for the hotel, soccer and netball jerseys, and adjustable netball courts.

Education Director raises alarm over literacy crisis

The Executive Director of Education, Arts, and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, says that the world has been in a learning crisis since before COVID-19, and Namibia is no exception.

Steenkamp says that the literacy crisis in the county is far worse than previously thought, with the discovery that only one out of three learners can read.

She revealed this during the 2024 Nedbank coastal budget review breakfast meeting at Swakopmund.

Swapo highlights infrastructure progress in Zambezi recruitment drive

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, says over the past 33 years, the Swapo Party-led government has delivered the most needed infrastructure development throughout the country.

She says the government has delivered educational and health infrastructure, roads, and other key elements with the potential to drive the socio-economic transformation of all Namibians.

Theofelus remarked this during a Swapo Party recruitment drive at Kalimbeza Village in the Zambezi Region, where she received 39 new members.

C. ||Oaseb Senior Secondary wins top award at Hardap Regional academic awards

The Hardap Regional Academic Awards saw the C. ||Oaseb Senior Secondary at Gibeon walk away with the top award as the overall best performing school in Grade 12 for the 2023 academic year.

The top award comes with a floating trophy and a cash prize of N$10,000. 

Desmond ||Kheibeb, the principal of C. IIOaseb Senior Secondary School ascribed the school's top academic achievement to teaching and learning basics.

Nsundano Technical School to construct two new classrooms

Nsundano Technical School at Bukalo in the Zambezi Region will soon commence construction of two new classrooms. 

This was revealed at the ground-breaking ceremony at the school on Wednesday.

The principal of the Nsundano Technical School said additional classrooms will benefit the students not only in theory but in practice as well.

Paul Knoblauch, the advisor for pre-vocational subjects in the Directorate of Education, Arts, and Culture in the Zambezi Region, expressed his excitement about the developments at the technical school. 

NAMIBIA CONNECT | 2024/25 National Budget

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Ipumbu Shiimi, invited learners from various schools to witness the tabling of the 2024/25 National Budget in Parliament.

The theme for this year's budget is “Continuing the Legacy of Dr. Hage Geingob by Caring for the Namibian Child" and is focused on the deliberate intention to bring prosperity closer to the Namibian people by promoting economic growth while reinforcing the government’s vision of building an inclusive private-sector-led economy."

 

Erongo governor urges learners to set ambitious goals

Erongo Governor Neville Andre is urging high school learners in the region to set their ambitions high for success through hard work to obtain better results.

Andre was speaking at Duinesig High School, which performed well in the 2023 Namibia Senior Secondary Advanced Subsidiary and Ordinary Level examinations.

Lack of focus, parental support, and indiscipline were cited as the primary reasons for failure in examinations.

Andre said schools from the region have shown consistent deterioration in their results over the years.
