The Swapo Party Oshikoto Regional Congress at Omuthiya concluded last night. The meeting elected a regional coordinator, mobiliser and treasurer, as well as 10 delegates to the national congress later this year. Current Oshikoto Regional Coordinator, Armas Amukwiyu, survived a challenge for the position by Max Nekongo. Sara Shikokola and Anna Nepolo contested for the position of regional mobiliser and Shikokola emerged as the winner. Engel Nawatiseb ran unopposed for the position of treasurer, after delegates found that his challenger, Armas Amukoto, had not been vetted. Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah opened the congress on Tuesday, saying the secret of a successful meeting was for participants to approach it with an open mind. The congress also elected four candidates, who would contest positions in the Swapo Central Committee. The meeting was held with a stern warning from Regional Coordinator, Amukwiyu, to desist from slander, which would detract from the party's programmes.
