A senior Rundu Town Council staff member appeared in the Magistrate’s Court there for allegedly contravening immigration laws. Sithembinkosi Moyo, a Zimbabwean national, is accused of having conducted business outside her employment and was denied bail on Tuesday, 8 August. The 32-year-old Moyo is head of public and environmental health at the Rundu Town Council. Moyo's case was postponed to 11 September for further police investigations. She remains in custody as the state opposed bail. She was arrested last Thursday. Nampa reported last week that Moyo has a work permit that only allows her to work for the Rundu Town Council and that she allegedly did not apply for a change of conditions. Moyo has worked for the council since 2010. The troubled Rundu town council has been making headlines, as just last month, its CEO, Romanus Haironga, was suspended and investigations into his conduct continue. Last week the town faced a land grab amid accusations of corruption. A community protest over land is scheduled for tomorrow.
