About N$300 million is needed to service Farm 37.

This is according to Municipal Councillor Victor Leroy, who has emphasized that there is no serviced land available in Walvis Bay to sell to landless residents.

Speaking at Thursday's council meeting, IPC Councillor Leroy Victor mentioned a few areas within Walvis Bay that were scheduled to be serviced but were not.

"The public wants to go to Farm 37, we are here for the public, we can, we budgeted extension 8 but let's talk about figures, there are over 10 000 backyard shacks, so if you take extension 8, how many plots are there? Only 80, so we can only accommodate 80 or 100 people. We have budgeted extension 8 in 2019 already, we are in 2023 now, and there is no land serviced to sell. Unfortunately, we are facing the reality that the extensions of our boundaries are full, and we don't have any services plots to sell".

Farm 37 was identified in 2015 by the leadership then, as a new township to accommodate the thousands of backyard squatters at Walvis Bay.

The Farm is about 10 kilometres outside the harbour town and so far it has two communal toilets and showers with running water.

While the council looks for the N$300 million needed to service the new township, it has allocated N$1 million to move about 50 residents to Farm 37 as a pilot project.
