The driver of a Mazda drove into a house in the Chotto compound in Katima Mulilo.
The driver, who was taken into police custody, was tested at the scene, and his alcohol level was found to be over the limit.
The owner of the house, Mutinta Sitali, was still in disbelief as the accident took place while she was in the room that was driven into.
"I was inside the house with my youngest, who is three years and three months old. I just felt the wall hit me and the speaker too, so I opened the door and ran outside. My other kids were in the next room, where they were watching television."
Mutonga Kapala, one of the eyewitnesses, related the incident.
"There was no major injury; the kids were not yet in the house at the time because the car hit a wall that fell exactly where the children sleep, but there were no injuries because the kids were not yet in the house. The parents have told us that these kids normally sleep early, but today they didn't. It was by the grace of God because right now we would be talking about something different; the kids and their mother would all be in a mortuary right now."
On the other hand, Sitali, whose house was hit, is now looking for help in addressing the damage incurred.
"There is really nothing I can do, and so the only thing I can do is ask for help; my maize meal and everything I had inside is all ruined, and the beds and other items are now damaged."
Her fridge and television as well were damaged beyond repair, and we estimate the total value of the properties at N$10,000.
