Some residents of Gobabis are demanding the suspension of municipal workers who are allegedly implicated in corrupt activities without pay.

A court order issued last month indicated that eight employees who were suspended two years ago must be reinstated because they were suspended unprocedurally.

These are Frieda Uitele, John Endjala, Fillemon Makili, Johannes Nantuua, Ashipala Shilemba, Veinona Steyn, Paul Kayambu, and Kondjeni Nghiwanapo.

In their petition, the group Spokesperson Brain Modise says that the right procedures should be followed so that those who will be found guilty face the law.

"We demand the immediate appointment of a competent law firm that will expedite the disciplinary hearing and dismissal process according to the procedures. There are procedures we have as a municipality. Let us follow the right procedures and do the right thing. Because we don't want negligence, we demand that all be charged and dismissed by the end of this May."

The chairperson of the Gobabis Municipality Management Committee, Sylvester Binga, promised the residents that the council would study the petition.

"We will accept and take this petition that is handed in by the aggrieved Gobabis residents, and it will be dealt with by the council. Feedback will be given to the community of Gobabis. No decision will be taken now. Procedures need to be followed."

The community has given the council until the end of this month to provide them with feedback.
