The outgoing chairperson of the Namwater Board of Directors announced that they are leaving the company with a positive balance, having improved it by N$215 million compared to when they assumed their position.
Thaddius Maswahu made this statement during the appointment of a new board for Namwater by the Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Forestry, Carl Schlettwein.
The outgoing board was appointed in 2017, and their three-year term was extended with an additional term.
Apart from complaints by the staff about the structure and grading, Maswahu is happy with their performance.
The outgoing team has developed a new five-year strategic plan for 2023–2028, which will guide the operations of the parastatal.
Also speaking at the occasion was the incoming chairperson, Luther Rukira, who noted that although they were not involved in the development of the strategic plan, they will implement it.
The Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Forestry, Carl Schlettwein, reminded the incoming board of their fundamental responsibility to supply water and not to treat Namwater as a profit-making organisation.
Schlettwein says he expects the new board to promote a compliance culture within the entity to facilitate governance by adhering to applicable statutes and regulations.
