Cabinet has directed that investigations be extended to the source of dried sedimentation and that no further sales of the product should be made.

This follows the deaths of 16 people who died of suspected food poisoning at Kayova village in the Kavango East Region.

Expressing sympathy to the bereaved family during the 8th Cabinet resolution briefing, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus noted that the cabinet endorsed the intervention to provide burial assistance as well as food provision by the office of the Prime Minister.

Cabinet has also taken note of the psychosocial support provided to the bereaved family and the investigations undertaken by the Ministries of Health and Social Services, as well as Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare.

Cabinet has further directed the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises to engage with NamWater and NamPower to stop the suspension of water and electricity services due to non-payment.

Cabinet also resolved that NamWater and NamPower should never suspend the supply of utilities to various defaulting local authorities as a means to expedite revenue collection.

It has endorsed the proposed short- and long-term solutions to address structural problems in the supply of utilities across the country.
