The Speaker of the House, Professor Peter Katjavivi, addressed the concerns surrounding MP Jerry Ekandjo's Notice of Motion, providing an explanation of the sequence of events.

The Speaker clarified that his office had not issued any instructions to exclude Ekandjo's motion from the Order Paper."Let me make it clear: there was never an instruction from my office or from myself or my office not to place his motion on the Order Paper."

The Speaker emphasised that the motion was duly moved by Ekandjo, and as per normal convention, it should have been included in the Order Paper without any hindrance.

In addition, Professor Katjavivi addressed an erroneous statement made by Ekandjo regarding the withdrawal of the motion, pointing out that it did not accurately reflect the situation.

'What honourable Ekandjo read from the minutes of the proceedings of Tuesday, June 6, 2023, that the motion was withdrawn in terms of Rule 30 B of the standing rules and orders, which is not a correct reflection. The reference he made to the withdrawal on the minutes of the preceding day of June 6, 2023, refers to the motion by the honourable Motuu, which she withdrew on that day here in the chamber, and not the motion that he was talking about. The notice of his motion was given on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Thus, his motion would only appear on the Order Paper Wednesday, June 7, 2023. And when he moved and introduce it, it will appear as part of the minutes on the proceedings of Wednesday, June 7, 2023, as the case now."
