Rundu Beach, a popular recreational spot in the regional capital of Kavango East, is about to get a facelift.

Plans are in the pipeline to construct a high-end market facility.

Two years ago, parts of Rundu Beach looked like swamps without any prospects of attracting investors.

That was until a local company, Namibia Investment Contacts, came into the picture with the idea of adding value to the swamp.

Machines and equipment were brought in, and earthwork commenced.

The public relations officer for the project, Jerry Kauyu, says it was about time something was done to revive the popular hanging spot.

Once all the work is done, the area will be known as Rundu Beach Waterfront Park.

Even though the request for this particular piece of land was made close to seven years ago, work only started in 2021, and Kauyu attributes this largely to bureaucracy.

Kauyu says the Rundu Beach Waterfront Park is a lifetime project, and different amenities will be added as the years progress.

The team had to travel to Dubai to learn how to turn wetlands into usable land.
