13-year-old Makanga Johannes Mushongo from Runjarara village in the Kavango East Region, who appealed for assistance with a wheelchair on social media, has received one.

Makanga was born with a disability that prevents him from walking, but he can crawl from one point to another.

This has been an obstacle to his attending school, and health extension worker, Silas Rufinu, went out to seek help.

"So the child was having difficulties crawling, especially during rainy seasons, so I thought that even though we are waiting for assistance from Nyangana, I should also approach more people. Maybe we can find a good Samaritan to help the boy get a wheelchair faster. That's when I posted on social media, and many people were willing to help."

The Republican Party turned out to be the good Samaritan.

"We did not hesitate; that's why we took a decision to buy the wheelchair and also some food to assist the disabled; roughly, the chair cost N$3,000 and the combo cost N$660. That's the cost of the things we brought here, and the family is excited and happy, and they warmly received them," said Mathias Mbundu, Secretary General of the RP.

Maria Makanga was delighted.

"Looking at my child receiving a wheelchair made me feel very happy. I am really happy. I never thought that my son would also own a wheelchair. He really does suffer during the winter or summer, and as you can see, his knees are wounded from thorns. You have come like the Mesaiah to my child; I really don't have much to say."
