The high influx of people in the coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay has put pressure on schools there despite the construction of additional classrooms and projects.

In his State of the Region Address, the Governor of the Erongo Region, Neville Andre, said during the period under review, the Directorate of Education, Art, and Culture has recorded an increase in learner enrollments from 51,942 last year to 53,538 this year.

This represents an increase of 1,596 learners.

Last year's examination results reflected a downward trend in the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary and Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary.

The region ranked fourth and sixth, respectively, in these exams.

To improve academic performance, the directorate developed a regional improvement strategy plan.

The governor highlighted other developments in the education sector.

The construction of a primary school in Swakopmund, which commenced last year at a cost of N$40 million, is expected to be completed next year in May.

The !Oe#gab Primary School hostel block in Tubusis was also constructed at a cost of N$68 million.
