The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) held an awareness session on the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme in the Zambezi Region.

The programme is aimed at rewarding compliant traders who meet specific criteria, with the purpose of enhancing supply chain security and facilitating legitimate trade through the establishment of a framework of standards and practises.

"What does this mean for businesses operating in Zambezi? It signifies immense benefits and opportunities. For those involved in importing goods from other countries, such as Zambia, with destinations spread across our vast nation, accreditation as an AEO will significantly reduce the waiting time during the clearing process. This will lead to smoother operations, cost savings, and increased competitiveness," explained Wilbroad Poniso, the Head of Customs and Excise at NamRA.

Poniso added that participation in the programme means active engagement with the framework of the World Customs Organisation in terms of standards, compliance, and partnership.

"By adhering to these standards, businesses can unlock various advantages, including simplified customs procedures, priority treatment, and mutual recognition with other countries implementing the AEO programme. These benefits will undoubtedly streamline trade facilitation and foster economic growth."

At present, Namib Mills is the only company accredited as an Authorised Economic Operator in the country.

NamRa is encouraging stakeholders to seize the opportunity to improve their operations, enhance efficiency, and contribute to economic prosperity.
