The Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Council says there is still much work to be done to capacitate young people and coordinate programmes and activities among various institutions, especially at the grassroot level.
Sharonice Busch made this call during an engagement with Omaheke regional leaders at Gobabis.
Busch stated that despite unemployment and other social and economic challenges, young people should take the lead in initiating projects with the assistance of the regional youth forum leaders.
"Also important are internal conversations around improving organisational culture and to speak with young leaders around the regional work plan just by informing the governor and councillors that they are expected annually to implement regional activities that must come from the constituency level into regional activities that are supervised by colleges."
Busch says the National Youth Council is working to strengthen youth activities, especially income-generating projects.
Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate emphasised that young people are the pillars of development, and stakeholders should come on board with assistance, especially on development-related projects.
"We must learn to become uncomfortable; it's time our young people take initiative, such as creating employment in villages like Okombomi and Otjombinde."
