The SWAPO Party Vice President says Namibians can only unite if they avoid tribalism and regionalism, which derail development and negatively affect people at the grass-roots level. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah made these remarks at the party's rally at Outapi.
Nandi-Ndaitwah says that for Namibians to progress and develop, there ought to be unity of purpose and positive thinking. She says tribalism is an animal that Namibians should fight against, as it is sometimes used as a tool to frustrate the government's development efforts.
"We must be united, Namibia first before our regions, Namibia first before our tribes; otherwise, we play in the hands of our detractors, and we should not allow it, comrades; otherwise, history will condemn us. We must work in unity; that is the only way we can build this country."
She called on the party to be thoroughly prepared for next year's national elections.
"The biggest task ahead of us now is our presidential and national assembly elections, and we must aim to claim our party's political glory and all the ground that we have lost."
Nandi-Ndaitwah assured the nation that the Swapo Party will continue to develop relevant policies aimed at economic emancipation and the empowerment of all Namibians. Poverty and unemployment among young people remain to be fully tackled.
"Our young people are becoming targets, and our young people are our assets that we cannot let go of. The foundation we created is very strong, and together with you, we are committed, and it's going to be done."
The Swapo Party Vice President also refuted perceptions that it only goes to the people during election campaigns.
Swapo Regional Coordinator for the Omusati Region, Sacky Kayone, assured Nandi-Ndaitwah that the region will rally behind her in the 2024 Presidential Election.
