The German government has installed a solar PV plant at the Gobabis Vocational Training Centre to sustain the centre's electricity supply as part of the social-economic progression.

The solar plant project cost N$4.1 million.

The Director of Technical Vocational Education and Training in the Ministry of Higher Education, Innovation, and Technology, Muvatere Siririka, urged the centre to take care of the facility.

The Development Cooperation Counsellor in the German Embassy, Thomas Feidieker, said the project will assist in addressing regional development and also help the country's realise its dream of becoming one of the energy hubs in Africa.

"We are confident that our partnership will continue to grow from strength to strength as Namibia has the aspiration of becoming a pioneer in renewable energy by 2030 and an energy hub in southern Africa, so Namibia really has huge potential for producing energy."

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate commended the German Embassy for the gesture.

"From a corporate social responsibility perspective, we are now able to generate our green electricity and operate in a manner that reduces our environmental impact and lowers our carbon footprint."

Gobabis Vocational Training Centre has now joined the Eenhana, Ongwediva, and Nakayale centres that have benefited from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development solar project.
