The upgrading of the N$30 million Nkurenkuru-Nepara road in the Kavango West Region has officially started.

The Nkurenkuru-Nepara road, which is currently gravel and serves a number of villages on the northwestern side of Nkurenkuru, will be upgraded to a low-volume seal standard, of which phase one is expected to be completed within a period of 10 months and will cover 10 kilometres, while phase two is 18 kilometres long.

The road is a direct link to the major regional trunk road that connects the Kavango West and East to the Trans-Zambezi Corridor on the east and to the northern regions on the west.

The Governor of Kavango West Region, Sirkka Ausiku, says this will enhance the quality of life and provide opportunities for development.

The project will provide about 100 jobs during the construction phase, and at least 15% of the contract price will be subcontracted to small and medium enterprises.

Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer Conrad Lutombi says Namibia needs proper road infrastructure to promote prosperous societies.

The Roads Authority is also busy with the upgrading of the Alex Muranda Charlie Cutline, the Ncaute-Karukuvisa Road, and the Kanu Vlei.
