Mayor Gabriel Kanyanga says the pothole-filled roads at Rundu will soon be a thing of the past, as they are in the process of awarding a tender to repair them.

Kanyanga said this during a ceremony where he was re-elected as the town's first citizen.

Mayor Kanyanga assured the town's residents that the Rundu Town Council has heard their cries and will continue working on improving the road infrastructure.

"The issue of rehabilitation of our road, which is in an advanced stage, is that everybody can witness that, through our memorandum of agreement with the road authority and the Road Fund Administration, a big cycle is being constructed at our entrance to the town. And very soon, Eugin Kakukuru Road will be realised to be a dual road, as it's the main road that is enduring our town, of course with the government on the side of it. Elizabeth Nepemba Road together with Myria Mwengere, as I am talking, very soon we are to award companies that are to improve the condition of this road."

Kanyanga says the council is also looking at improving some gravel roads that are currently in semi-formal and informal areas.

The mayor further stated that the council operates on a cost-recovery basis in order to offer quality service.

"With the new complexes that are being built in our town, as we all know, the town council operates on a cost recovery basis. This means that in order for the council to deliver quality and good service to the residents and to build better infrastructure, we only rely on our community, as we are rendering them services based on the money that they are bringing to the council to pay the municipality's bills."

He urged the inhabitants of Rundu to pay their bills on time in order for the council to bring development forward with fewer hindrances.

Kanyanga's deputy on the council hierarchy is Johanna Kakondo, while those sitting on the management committee, which is again chaired by Engelbert Muyenga, are Regina Nakore and Rosalia Nangundi.
