Findings from oversight reports by the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure, and Housing reveal stark disparities, particularly in rural communities, highlighting challenges of accessibility and outdated infrastructure, exacerbated by adverse weather conditions.

Presenting the report to the National Council, Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Swapo Party MP Alfeus Abraham, called for urgent attention to address the challenges in line with national development objectives.

The oversight committee's objectives included assessing road network conditions and access to essential institutions by rural and urban communities.

The Committee's concerns revealed infrastructure lagging behind the goals outlined in the Harambee Prosperity Plan.

"Namibia's well-maintained urban roads hide the stark challenges faced by rural communities, navigating bushy, rocky, and sandy roads that have outlived their lifespan. The findings underscore the necessity for immediate action to bridge the infrastructure gaps, ensure accessibility to essential services, and align with Parliament's mandate to oversee effective implementation of government policies."

The visits also involved consultative meetings, courtesy calls on governors and mayors, and site visits in various regions.
