The Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Emma Theofelus, has commended the national broadcaster for its excellent coverage during the mourning period of the late President Hage Geingob.
Theofelus visited the nbc today and expressed gratitude to the dedicated staff.
The minister praised the corporation for its pivotal role in broadcasting crucial events.
Theofelus further thanked the corporation for the role it played in informing the nation during a series of memorial and funeral services for the late President while acknowledging the aspect of grievance experienced by the employees themselves.
"In addition, the Minister highlighted the ministry's plans in partnership with the broadcaster, which include the Access to Information Bill, emphasising nbc's integral partnership with the government in the implementation of the bill."
The nbc's Director General lauded the staff's resilience and the importance of the partnership between the Ministry and the national broadcaster, adding that it was not an easy time for both the nation and the corporation's staff.
Stanley Similo also shared insights on transformative initiatives underway at the corporation.
This visit underscored the importance of the partnership between nbc and the government, media independence, and the significant role the nbc plays in shaping the nation's narrative.
Some nbc board members also attended the meeting.
