BoN launches robotic coding at selected schools

The Bank of Namibia has launched a robotic coding project to level Namibia's education system with the ever-advancing developments in the world of technology.

Fueled by Namibia's aspirations to become an industrialised nation, the STEAM project focuses on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.

STEAM subjects are listed in all of Namibia's national development frameworks, including the Harambee Prosperity Plan.

FNB records N$600 000 in fraudulent e-wallet transactions

In the wake of a rise in e-wallet scams, First National Bank (FNB) Namibia says a lack of understanding of the role of the one-time pin (OTP) is the leading cause of clients falling victim to conmen.

During a media engagement with FNB, the bank revealed that 788 fraudulent e-wallet transactions were recorded between August 2022 and August 2023.

That equates to about N$600,000 stolen from would-be e-wallet recipients.

The head of transaction and digital banking, Yeoman Hamilton, explained that this is an elaborate scam that happens over time.

NamRA on import procedures

The Namibia Revenue Agency has emphasised the import procedures for commercial and non-commercial goods in a public notice that has been circulated on social media in an effort to educate importers.

NamRA has released a public notice outlining important procedures related to various goods from non-Southern African Customs Union (SACU) member states.

Commercial goods valued at N$500 or more, subject to duty as per Schedule 1 of the Customs and Excise Act, must be paid upon importation into SACU.

OAFLAD #WeAreEqual Campaign

The Organisation of African First Ladies for Development and its partners have unveiled the #WeAreEqual Campaign to address various forms of discrimination.

The campaign was launched in Kinshasa, DRC, earlier this year, and this is the second time it's being unveiled in Namibia.

It aims to address various forms of discrimination, including gender inequality and economic empowerment, gender-based violence, health, and education.
