Swapo Party Member of Parliament in the National Council, Gerhard Shiimi, emphasised the vital role of the National Youth Council in addressing the needs of young people in Namibia. 

He urged the NYC leadership to diligently monitor the implementation of all programmes outlined in the budget for 2024–25. 

Shiimi said the National Youth Council should reject tribalism and regionalism, stating that such divisions are contrary to the principles of the "One Namibia, One Nation" slogan, which preaches unity of purpose and action. 

He advocated for the allocation of resources to empower the council, enabling it to effectively engage with youths across the country.

"The National Youth Service can be a solution to unemployment as young people can be trained in areas that are self-sustaining to create opportunities for themselves and make a living out of it. We, therefore, call upon the NYS, with its limited budget, to please ensure that the ongoing recruitment is a success and that the intake is representative of the Namibian House. The management should come up with irrigation and manufacturing projects to instill a discipline of working towards creativity and food security in the young."
