The President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) encouraged Namibians to go out in numbers, exercise their constitutional rights, and register to vote in the November elections.
Dennis Francis said this during his departure at Hosea Kutako International Airport after his three-day visit to Namibia, where he held various developmental engagements.
"I understand you are moving towards elections soon. I would encourage the people of Namibia to get out and exercise their constitutional right; it does not exist in many parts of the world, and they should cherish it because their forefathers fought for it so that they can be free and liberated."
Francis further commended Namibia's progressive approach to development.
"A country that is progressive and ambitious—sure, there are some issues, but you find them everywhere. The future of this country is bright. I had a great meeting with senior officials of the government and young people. I held a lecture at the University of Technology. My assessment is that this policy is strong."
The UNGA President held various meetings, including a courtesy stop for President Nangolo Mbumba, engagements with young people, and addressing a joint Parliament session where he commended Namibia for its achievements in gender parity.
Discussions also concerned the attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
