The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation says it will maintain its mutual cooperation with Namibia, noting satisfaction with a substantial increase in bilateral delegation exchanges, particularly among the ministries of health, education, defence, and justice.

The Federation Council paid a courtesy visit to Parliament today.

Its chairperson of the Committee on Social Affairs, Yelena Perminova, stated that the balanced, constructive course of Namibia in international affairs is impressive, and such exchanges have creatively established friendship groups amongst parliaments.

"Representatives of Namibia are traditional participants in the forums in the format of Russia-Africa cooperation, including the second interparliamentary conference in Moscow in March 2023 and the second Russia-Africa Summit. This reflects the spirit of partnership and mutual solidarity between our countries in today's difficult situation."

Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, conveyed his aspirations for peace between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting the conflict's global implications.

He extended appreciation to the Russian Federation for fortifying bilateral relations with Namibia through recent parliamentary exchanges, emphasising the imperative of innovative approaches to advance political cooperation.

"What is really important is to remember history and to be guided by historical events that have shaped the kind of world that we desire. They will build around a sense of solidarity, goodwill, and, above all, preserving peace and stability. We serve on the Russian-Ukraine task force, of which I'm the vice president, and we approach this issue with the utmost sincerity and want to see a settlement to this particular conflict."

As a counterpart focusing on social issues, the Council also paid a visit to the Deputy Minister of Disability Affairs, Alexia Manombe-Ncube.
