The Swapo Party's Chairperson of Leaders Assigned to the Zambezi Region, Erastus Uutoni, addressed party members and supporters at Bitto in the Sibbinda District.
He reminded them that the liberation struggle was won because of unity of purpose, and the enemy was defeated.
Uutoni stated that, as the people had united for the common purpose of liberating the country, it was now time to stand together and work hard to build on the gains achieved since then through the Swapo Party-led government.
Rather than forgetting the journey they travelled with the party, he implored party loyalists to resist those who meant only to confuse them.
Uutoni says the Swapo-led government has established various institutions to address challenges faced by Namibians and will continue to do so as long as the people remain united.
"Yes, there are a lot of challenges that we are facing as a nation, and it is us as a nation and no one else who will come and solve those problems for us, only us. You understand the question of unemployment. Yes, yes, we recognise that there is unemployment among our young people, but who is going to solve those problems? Is it not us if we are united? The Government of the Republic of Namibia has ways to come up with strategies to ensure that our young people, when they graduate, have something prepared for them."
He encouraged the youth to opt for vocational training, as these are skills required for Namibia to become more industrialised.
Addressing the serious challenge posed nationally by recurring droughts, he said numerous other nations battle the same, though he stressed that the government has always ensured that citizens are taken care of through ever-improving drought relief efforts.
He encouraged everyone, especially the youth, to register as voters and to participate in the November 27 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
"You should start to register when registration comes here on the 13th of July; you will be the first person to register; otherwise, if you are not going to register, Meme Netumbo, whom we are saying that we are going to vote for, you are going to fail her. She can only succeed if you have registered to vote for her."
