Tukwatha Youth Organisation spearheaded a fun walk aimed at urging young Namibians to register to vote before the fast-approaching August 1 deadline.
With a substantial youth demographic, young people's participation in the upcoming elections is deemed crucial.
The fun walk highlighted the role of the youth vote in addressing pressing national issues such as education, unemployment, and many other social and economic challenges they face.
The president of the Tukwatha Youth Organisation and the driver of the funwalk, Hendrina Kudhingiliwa, emphasised that the collective voice of young voters could significantly impact policy decisions and the future trajectory of the country.
"What we are witnessing here is actually a youth voter's fun walk, the youth coming together to show unity that they are well aware of the 2024 national elections and they would participate and would register to vote."
ECN's Corporate Communications Manager, De Wet Siluka, commended the initiative.
"If you look at here behind this are mostly first-time voters, youth who have turned 18 years, and it is so commendable for us as a commission, a very encouraging gesture, and we want to thank the organiser of this event for coming up with such initiatives as this."
Despite the effort, the organisation said the initiative fell short of support.
"It was very disheartening to see the lack of support from youth institutions. As a youth organisation, youth in all regions and institutions that represent the youth on a national level are not coming on board."
With time running out, youth groups across Namibia are intensifying their efforts, urging all eligible young Namibians to register and make their voices heard.
