Raising awareness for a particular cause can be done in many ways.

But, recently, more individuals and organisations are taking to the roads through walkathons to raise awareness on social issues.

One such organisation is Radio Padlangs Huistoe FM, which embarked on a CrossWalk mission from Noordoewer in the ||Kharas Region to the capital city, Windhoek.

The 800-kilometre walk started on the 5th of August and will end on the 16th of August.

The aim is to launch an election prayer campaign for the 2024 national elections.

Four teams from all four corners of the country, consisting of 12 walkers, are participating in the crosswalk, which is largely based on getting ordinary citizens involved in praying for their leaders to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections.

The nbc News team caught up with the walkers 30 kilometres before Keetmanshoop and spoke to Linda van der Merwe, one of the organisers.

Van Der Merwe said the walk has yet again demonstrated the kindness of the Namibian people.

"People in our own land come and stand still. They say we have heard what you are doing and thank you for what you are doing because this is not just walking with the cross; it is a prayer walk also. That is the purpose for which we pray. There are so many people all over the land that in this stage we walked and prayed, they also gathered and prayed with us."
