||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick has called for improved road infrastructure in the region.
She says quality roads serve as a backbone for economic activities, enabling trade and commerce while fostering accessibility to education and healthcare facilities.
Frederick made the remarks during a workshop at Keetmanshoop on identifying road infrastructure development needs in the region.
The workshop organised by the Roads Authority is designed as an inclusive platform where stakeholders engage in meaningful dialogue about the region's road infrastructural needs alongside other critical improvements.
"Improved roads can significantly reduce travel time and costs, thereby enhancing productivity across various sectors. However, achieving these improvements requires collaboration among all stakeholders involved—government entities, private sector partners, community leaders, and civil society organizations. Together, let us work hand-in-hand to ensure that our region thrives through enhanced connectivity and accessibility. Thank you once again for being here today; I look forward to fruitful discussions ahead," said Frederick.
Three regions, which include ||Kharas, Hardap and |Khomas, have been identified and will form part of the revised master plan, which entails rectifying imbalances in the provision of social and economic road infrastructure.
Current envisaged projects in the ||Kharas region include the construction of the B1 road from Tses through Grunau, the Keetmanshoop-Aroab road, and the Tses to Berseba road.
