Hundreds of learners without school placement

The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture is facing an uphill battle for the placement of Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners.

The nbc News sat down with the Executive Director in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, for an update on the 2024 placements for Grades 1 and 8.

Otjozondjupa, |Khomas and Erongo regions are at the top of the list, grappling with placement challenges.

In the |Khomas Region, 389 Grade 1 learners and 600 Grade 8 learners are still waiting for placement.

National Symbols Campaign launched

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Dr. Peya Mushelenga, has called for national unity to achieve prosperity for all.

He made the call at the launch of ||Kharas Regional Activation of National Symbols Campaign at Oranjemund.

The National Symbols Campaign, which is part of the Nationhood and National Pride Programme, aims to enhance patriotism by educating Namibians on the importance of national symbols.

These national symbols include the national flag, the national coat of arms, presidential standards, and the national anthem.

Mariental Town Council denies transferring assets to proposed power company

The Mariental Town Council says it has not taken resolution to transfer its assets to a proposed power management and distribution company for the southern regions of Hardap and ||Kharas, nor has it resolved to join the said company.

The Mariental Town Council was responding to the petition of the Mariental Residents Association, which alleged that the town council had transferred its assets to a certain company.

Hardap, ||Kharas Electricity distributor company to become operational this year

The establishment of the regional electricity distributor company for the Hardap and ||Kharas regions is anticipated to become operational this year.

Gerschon Dausab, the Chairperson of the Hardap Regional Council, shared this information on the sidelines of a closed-door consultation meeting held in Keetmanshoop aimed at discussing the formation of the RED company and its implications.

SPWC organises inaugural activity workshop for leaders in ||Kharas and Hardap regions

In accordance with the resolutions of the Swapo Party Congress in 2022, the women's wing of the party organised its inaugural activity workshop for the leadership of ||Kharas and Hardap regions at Keetmanshoop.


The objective of the workshop is to offer guidance on the implementation of the congress resolutions through a five-year plan.


In her address to the regional leadership at the workshop's opening, Maria Namupala, a Research and Advisory Cadre member, emphasised the importance of effectively implementing the congress resolutions.
