Berseba Constituency Councillor, Jeremias Goeieman, says alleged nepotism in the recruitment of public servants in the ||Kharas Region should be addressed as a matter of urgency as it creates uneasiness and conflicts.

Goeieman made the call during the Public Service Commission's stakeholder engagement on matters about human resources administration and management at Keetmanshoop.

Goeieman, who is also a member of the National Council, remarked that the composition of the interview panel members disadvantages residents of the region.

"We are entrusted with a very noble task, that of recruitment and appointments and, at times, disciplinary control of our employees in the different sectors of our offices, ministries, and agencies; therefore, we have to carry out this task with due diligence, professionalism, and integrity. Unfortunately, this noble task is at times compromised by issues of nepotism, corruption, and bias that surface during our recruitment processes."

The Public Service Commission Chairperson, Commissioner Salman Jacobs, stated that the commission's role is to ensure that institutions are strengthened and capacitated for effective service delivery.

He called for harmony between elected officials and public servants.

"The public service is there permanently; therefore, we want to build up a kind of public service that will continue doing service delivery. We know the politicians came and went, but the public service will remain, and service delivery will continue. Therefore, that aspect must be strengthened; it must be professionalised, and it must become the entity that carries that institution."

The commissioners will be in the region for three days, where presentations of achievements and challenges faced by the region will be made to the commissioners.
