Windhoek Mayor Queen Kamati, alongside City of Windhoek CEO Moses Matyayi, visited the City Police Headquarters to gain more insight into the daily operations of the force.

The event was a joint operation by the City Police and the Police that also highlighted the latest technological advancements used by the City designed to enhance crime-fighting efforts.

The tour came just in time as we entered the long weekend, where the City Police showed off their newly acquired state-of-the art technological equipment to assist in their crime prevention efforts.

The AI-driven camera installed in many parts of the town and also across identified crime spots will make it easier for the police to even prevent crime before it is committed.

During the tour, Mayor Kamati was introduced to new AI-driven systems that are poised to revolutionise how the City Police tackle crime. These systems are shared with the Namibian Police Command Center for the two law enforcement agencies to react to crime with speed and urgency.

These advancements, which include sophisticated surveillance systems with motion detection and adjustable camera controls, are now operational in key hotspots across the |Khomas region, including Groot Aub.

These systems are managed from a central CCTV room, allowing for precise monitoring and rapid response.

"This is very exciting, and I am very happy that the members of the media are here to inform the public about the level of operations. These smart operations that we are currently enduring are really helping us from all angles so that we can curb crime because you are sitting in the control room and you are able to view the city."

In addition to these ground-based technologies, the City Police has also integrated a state-of-the-art drone system into its operations.

Police officers have undergone specialized training to operate these drones, which provide an aerial view for tracking and responding to criminal activities.

"Our drones can go as far as 5 kilometers and are controlled from the headquarters, so this is really helping us to make sure that we are excelling in the arresting of the crime, it seems like a good thing."

Mayor Kamati expressed her admiration for the dedication of the city police officers and emphasized the crucial role that technology plays in maintaining public safety.

"Clearly, we are just here to observe and to make sure that the community is safe, to also give moral support and to see that our people are doing what they are supposed to be doing, and also for us to see where the challenges are because there are challenges and temptations at these operations."
