There was a lively debate in the Junior National Council (JNC) as members talked about how to make the education system better in the future.

Members discussed how parents, teachers, learners, and other stakeholders all have roles to play.

JNC Member Julia Tsowases emphasised that education requires everyone's involvement.

She stressed that parents should be more engaged with their children's education and attend school meetings.

Tsowases also urged teachers to use innovative methods to inspire learners and prepare them for the future.

She encouraged learners to take responsibility for their learning and set personal academic goals.

"Learners should be encouraged to think critically about their roles in society and engage in discussions about their future by fostering a sense of responsibility and obligation over their own education. Students can become proactive contributors to their community and continent at large."

JNC Member Annely Taukuheke highlighted the need for more support from sponsors and contributors to the education sector.

While she recognised the funding channelled to the sector, she questioned how the money is effectively distributed across the regions and called for surveys to ensure proper allocation.

"In most cases, I realised schools that get a larger amount are the ones that perform nationwide. Just because a school performs nationwide does not mean we should neglect schools that do not perform nationwide."

Other MPs also contributed to the debate.

"Teachers are at the heart of any educational system, they are not just transmitters of knowledge but also mentors and role models to shape the minds of future generations. The role of teachers should extend beyond the classroom. Teachers should be seen as community leaders who influence social change. For the continent to achieve its goals, teachers should be trained and supported."

"Our parents instead should stand with us towards achieving a well-educated future. If I had to say I want to be a cloud engineer, my parents should research more on what a cloud engineer is. We face a severe drought, and that can be a solution to the hunger."

"When we talk about the responsibilities of learners, teachers, and stakeholders, we are supposed to live life interdependently. So to acquire this, we all need one another in aspect areas like they say Rome was never built in a day."
